Rome: The Vatican Museums under the stars

After the successful 2009 season, the Vatican Museums have opened their doors after sunset every Friday of the summer from the beginning of April through Octobed, from 7 pm to 11 pm (entry closes at 9:30 pm, closing announced half an hour before 11 pm).

Visitors can admire the Egyptian Museum, the Pio-Clementino Museum (in the picture), the collection of modern religious art, the Upper Galleries (candelabras, tapestries and maps), the Borgia Apartment, Raphael’s Rooms, the Sistine Chapel and the Galleries of the Apostolic Library. The Gallery of St. Pius V, with medieval and Renaissance ceramics, along with the micromosaics, a typically Roman form of art that was very popular in the late 18th century.

“A unique and extraordinary experience for all Romans and anyone who would like to visit, but whose other occupations make the pleasure of an enjoyable visit to the marvels of the Vatican impossible during regular hours,” explains Radio Vatican. Evening visitors must make an online reservation on the official website of the Vatican Museums, www.museivaticani.va.
