Germany: The dioceses have paid 6.4 Million to the victims of sexual abuse
Over the last five years, the Catholic dioceses of Germany have paid 6.4 million euros to the victims of sexual abuse. So said the German periodical Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung on January 19, 2016, after inquiring into 27 dioceses. This amount, which also includes the costs of psychological treatment, covers over a thousand cases.
The diocese of Münster (northwest) is the one that has paid the most important contributions. Out of 129 requests recorded, 122 have been recognized and have led to 862,000 euros' worth of compensation payments. For all of Germany, 860 persons have received indemnities. Most of the cases concern facts decreed to date from several decades ago.
