Switzerland: The March for Life did not march in Berne
Federal Square in Bern.
About 1700 people gathered in Bern on September 17, 2016, to protest against abortion. It was the 7th March for Life in Switzerland, organized for the first time in the Swiss capital. Initially, the procession was supposed to cross the city, but for security reasons the police restricted the protest to Federal Square and blocked access to the square. According to the Swiss newspaper 20 minutes on September 17, there were many policemen in anti-riot gear, ready to intervene. They held off a little over a hundred counter-protesters who tried to disrupt the protest with shouts, whistles, horns, firecrackers and smoke bombs.
The March for Life was organized in Zurich from 2010 to 2015. There will be an eighth edition in 2017, but the location has not yet been determined.
