Consecration of England to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Abp. of Westminster

Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, on February 18, 2017, consecrated England and Wales to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, on the occasion of a visit of a pilgrim Our Lady of Fatima statue, according to agency iMedia on February 20th.

Cardinal Nichols also crowned a statue of Our Lady of Fatima that was recently installed in the Catholic cathedral of London. According to the Catholic Herald online on February 20, the Cardinal said in the sermon he gave before the consecration that the apparitions at Fatima were a “considerable challenge” for Catholics, who should ask themselves the following question: “How do I express my fidelity to Christ each day?” As part of the answer, the Cardinal recommended praying the Rosary as a prayer of self-abandonment to God, which is, he said, “the essence of devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”

During its journey beyond the Channel, the pilgrim Virgin will visit 20 cathedrals in England and Wales, last of all Wrexham in the northeast of the country, in October 2017.
