Belgium: Study Reveals Eugenics Against Children With Down’s Syndrome

The NIPS makes it possible to detect without major inconvenience, and with great reliability, several genetic anomalies such as trisomy 21.

In Belgium, since July 2017, its cost has been fully covered by social insurance: also, nearly 80% of pregnant women choose to have recourse to it.

At the same time, however, there has been an increase in the number of abortions performed due to trisomy 21 detected in unborn children. This is shown by a study from the Catholic University of Louvain published on February 8, 2021 in the journal Nature.

According to the researchers, the proportion of fetuses carrying trisomy 21 is estimated at 0.32% of the cases observed, while the proportion of newborns with trisomy 21 only represents 0.04% of total number of births in Belgium in 2018, since NIPS screening became widespread: a difference that cannot be the result of chance.

Another study, carried out this time in Flanders by the Studiecentrum voor Perinatale Epidemiologie (SPE), confirms this trend: from 42 births of newborns with trisomy 21 in 2014, the number dropped to 28 births in 2018, as well as in 2019.

At the same time, it is estimated that 95.5% of pregnancies are terminated in cases of a positive diagnosis of trisomy 21 in the fetus.

The cross-referencing of these different data thus leads to an estimate of nearly 800 abortions performed each year in Flanders following a positive prenatal diagnosis of trisomy 21: impossible not to make the observation of a eugenics which increasingly penetrates mentalities.

This once again illustrates one of the goals of prenatal screening. It is presented as the opportunity to prepare for the arrival of a child with an operable disability, and to establish a protocol for future care. But the NIP is primarily a subtle way of encouraging abortion in the event of a malformation or inoperable illness.

With the Malthusian and abortive mentality now firmly established, couples see no point in giving birth to a mentally or physically disabled child. From now on the child is reduced to a product, certainly desired, but without significant defect, under penalty of being thrown away.
