La Reja Seminary: Diaconal and Priestly Ordinations – 2023
The seven newly ordained priests and deacons stand in front of Bishop Bernard Fellay
On Saturday, December 16, 2023, the Our Lady Co-redemptrix Seminary of the Society of Saint Pius X crowned the academic year with ordinations to the diaconate and the priesthood. During the pontifical Mass, Bishop Bernard Fellay conferred the two major orders on a total of seven candidates.
In this seminary in the southern hemisphere, priestly ordinations usually take place on Ember Saturday of Advent, but this year that Saturday falls two days before Christmas, so the ordinations were moved to the preceding Saturday.
The ceremony included ordinations to the diaconate and to the priesthood:
Three fifth-year seminarians received the order of the diaconate: an Argentinian and two Australians;
Four deacons in their sixth and last year received the priesthood: two Argentinians, a Brazilian, and a Filipino.
In his homily, Bishop Fellay presented the grandeur of the priesthood as the participation in the eternal priesthood of Christ, and insisted on the role of the priest as an instrument in the hands of God for the diffusion of grace in souls.
In this time of Advent, he gave the example of the disposition of the Blessed Virgin, who, through her Fiat, invites us to be docile toward those who are the ministers of Christ and dispensers of the mysteries of God.
Present at the ceremony were 33 priests who imposed their hands on the newly ordained priests after the bishop.
Through this beautiful ceremony, the seminary could contemplate the beautiful fruit which constitutes the very goal of the seminary—that of giving good and holy priests to the Church through our beloved congregation, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X.
Therefore, let us pray fervently, in particular for the four new priests who will soon begin their apostolate, asking the Hearts of Jesus and Mary that all the graces which pass through their hands become fruitful seed for the good of souls.
